Where?

Majorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands, which are in the Mediterranean Sea.  Known in Spanish as Mallorca, the island has been a popular tourist destination for many years.  It has a warm climate that makes it popular with those looking for winter or summer sun.  The currency used in Majorca is the euro, with Spanish being the local language.

Palma

Palma’s gothic Cathedral is an impressive sight and is well worth visiting, and is just one of many historical attractions in this city that has been in existence since Roman times.   Palma has a very good public transport system which makes it a good base for exploring the rest of the island. 

Magaluf

Magaluf is perhaps one of the best known resorts in Majorca, with its vibrant nightlife and reputation as a place to party.  It has a beautiful beach, with many watersports available.  During the winter months, most of the nightclubs shut down, but many of the cafes and restaurants remain open, making it popular with those looking for winter sun.

Cala D’Or

Cala D’Or is a popular tourist destination, with numerous beaches making up the resort.  There are plenty of shops, restaurants and bars to provide entertainment.  The Caves of Drach are a short drive from the resort and are one of the most famous tourist attractions on the island. 

Soller

Soller is a beautiful town in the north of the island which attracts many visitors.  The town sits at the foot of the impressive Puig Mayor, the highest mountain in Majorca.  This offers excellent opportunities for mountain walking.  The town has a main square, around which there are many cafes.  The town, with its beach at Puerto de Soller, is particularly popular with those interested in making the most of the scenery. 

Beaches

There are numerous beaches in Majorca, with many resorts catering to families, as well as those looking for a little more excitement.   Popular beaches include Cala Gran, Palma Nova, Sa Coma and Puerto Pollensa.  Generally, the beaches on the east coast of the island are situated in quieter resorts.

Many airlines fly to Majorca from across the UK, including easyjet, British Airways and bmi.  Thomsonfly fly from cities including Bristol and Cardiff.  Monarch Airlines fly to Palma de Mallorca from Manchester, Birmingham and London Luton.  Flight time from the UK is generally between 2 hours and 2 hours 30 minutes.
