Florence Flights Guide

Florence

One of the most magnificent cities in the world, Florence, or Firenze is located at the foothills of the Appenines. This beautiful Tuscan city with its signature orange-roofed houses lines the Arno River, welcoming visitors to enjoy the magnificent art on offer here, which includes works by some of the greatest masters of all time, from Leonardo da Vinci and Botticelli to Michelango, Donnatello, Boccaccio and Fra Angelico.

Stroll along Florence's cobbled streets in the UNESCO World Heritage listed Old Town and explore its beautiful piazzas en route to the city centre, home to two famous squares, Piazza de Duomo, home to the elegant Duomo, Florence's landmark Cathedral, and Piazza della Signoria. In the lovely Piazza della Signoria you'll find the magnificent city landmark, the Palazzo Vecchio, still used as the city's town hall today. Next door is the equally famous Uffizi Gallery, the oldest art gallery in the world and certainly one of the most magnificent, home to an unrivalled collection of Renaissance art.

To the west of the city you'll find the railway station and the quaint Ponte Vecchio Bridge, home to what used to be workshops inhabited by blacksmiths, tanners and butchers. Nearby is the beautiful Gothic church of Santa Maria Novella, home to some of the most important art treasures in the city.

Other sights worth visiting including the Palazzo Pitti which is surrounded by the exquisite Boboli Gardens, as well as a selection of 16th and 17th Century palaces in the area around Via Maggio and Piazza di Santo Spirito. And for a slice of modern life, remember - Florence is home to many of the world's top fashion houses, so the stores and boutiques here are a veritable treasure trove of fashion labels.
