One cannot visit Cape Town without exploring its history, evident in the many museums in the city as well as the historic Cape Castle, built at the Cape of Good Hope by the Dutch East India Company in the 17th Century. It's the oldest surviving colonial building in South Africa. The magnificent Botanical Gardens, close to the Houses of Parliament in the city, are also worth visiting, and other natural splendor is evident at magnificent Kirstenbosch Gardens on the other side of the mountain.
