Bristol Flights Guide

Bristol

Located in the southwestern part of England on the banks of the River Avon, Bristol is one of the country's most important commercial ports. Its idyllic setting, surrounded by lush hills and the magnificent Avon Gorge, have made it a very popular holiday destination, and the city itself is a charming combination of history, culture and commercial enterprises.

Today Bristol is a modern city and very little of its 11th Century origins remain - most of the old buildings were destroyed during bombing in the Second World War. But there are some historic sights to see, including the beautifully restored Portland and Queen Squares, and a number of Georgian and Victorian churches to explore, including Bristol Cathedral, as well as other buildings and monuments from those eras.

The city centre is a bustling place, full of some excellent museums, art galleries and tranquil parks. Bristol is very famous for its thriving music scene, called Bristol Sound, which became popular in the 1980s and 1990s, and as there are two universities located here, the city is full of students who enjoy partying through the night.

One cannot visit Bristol without visiting its famous Zoo and Gardens, as well as the Bristol Clifton Observatory and caves, located near the remarkable Bristol Clifton Suspension Bridge. And some of England's most famous sights are also nearby. Bristol is close to Bath, with its many attractions, as well as the fascinating site of Stonehenge.
