Bergen Flights Guide
The base from which to explore Norway's magnificent Fjords, Bergen is an historic and very beautiful city located in an idyllic natural setting, surrounded on three sides by imposing mountain peaks. The city itself, which has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO because of its history, is full of brightly coloured wooden houses that stretch all the way down to the sheltered harbour on the North Sea. Bergen has been a major trading port since the Middle Ages and the pretty market square on its harbour, called the Torget, is the centre of city life. From the harbour, pretty cobbled streets wind their way through the old Hanseatic part of town. The second part of the city is the modern centre that stretches inland from the harbour. It's full of fascinating museums, art galleries, some surviving Medieval buildings and the city's famous aquarium. Visitors can take a cable car or funicular up two of the seven hills surrounding the city, namely Mount Ulriken and Mount Floyen, to enjoy magnificent panoramic views over Bergen and its coastline. Mount Floyen is full of walking trails through its forested slopes, and another favourite pastime here is to take boat trips to the Fjords from the port itself.
