Virgin Atlantic commenced flying in 1984, the inaugural flight was from London to New York. The airline now flies from the UK to North America, Asia, Africa, Middle East, Caribbean and Australia and carries over 5 million passengers a year. London Heathrow, London Gatwick and Manchester airport are Virgin’s hubs in the UK. As at October 2007, Virgin has 37 aircraft in its fleet.

There are three cabin classes offered on Virgin Atlantic flights; Upper Class, Premium Economy and Economy. Virgin Atlantic won Best Business Class and Best Premium Economy categories at the Business Traveller Awards in 2007. Upper class offers limousine transfers, drive through check in and an onboard bar. Personal inflight entertainment systems are provided on all flights.

Flying Club is the Virgin Atlantic Frequent Flyer programme. There are three levels of membership – Red, Silver and Gold. Access to the Clubhouse lounges is given to Upper Class travellers and Gold membership holders. Benefits of the flying club include free flights, discounts on Virgin Holidays and complimentary upgrades (silver and gold only).
