Information on Thai Airways
Thai Airways International (‘Thai Airways’) is the national carrier of Thailand.
It was formed in 1960 and currently has a fleet of 89 aircraft. It has its main hub in Bangkok and flies domestically and to 35 countries worldwide. Thai Airways is a member of the Star Alliance airline alliance. The airline was awarded second place in the Best Airline of the Year 2007 category in the Skytrax 2006/7 World Airline Survey.
Thai Airways offers four cabin classes on its international flights, Royal First, Royal Silk, Premium Economy and Economy. Royal First provides seats with a 180 degree recline in 7 feet of space and a baggage allowance of 40kg per passenger. Royal Silk has shell seats in long haul cabins, which recline 170 degrees in about 5 feet of space. In Royal Silk and Royal First, meals are served restaurant-style in courses. Seats in Premium Economy are wider than those in Economy and are in a segregated cabin. Personal inflight entertainment systems are fitted in all new Thai Airways aircraft, and are being retrofitted in all other long haul aircraft. All classes offer inflight meals, headsets, pillows and blankets.
In Thailand, Royal Orchid Lounges are available for the use of Royal Silk and Royal First passengers. These have business facilities, showers, smoking rooms and food and beverages. At Bangkok airport, there is also a Royal Orchid Spa for the use of Royal First passengers. Royal First and Royal Silk passengers are able to use Royal Orchid Lounges in many international locations, including Hong Kong and Singapore.
Royal Orchid Plus is the frequent flyer programme operated by Thai Airways. The programme has three membership levels, which are an entry level, Silver and Gold. Points are accrued through flights with Thai Airways and purchases from their travel and non-travel partners. Benefits of membership include an increased baggage allowance and one annual upgrade (Gold membership only).
