Information on KLM
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines was founded in 1919 by Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands and has its main hub at Amsterdam’s Schipol Airport. KLM is a member of the SkyTeam airline alliance and is a subsidiary of Air France-KLM. KLM operates a fleet of 194 aircraft.
KLM offers World Business and Economy class on its long haul flights. World Business facilities include priority boarding and disembarking, three course meals and lounge access. Europe Select and Economy class are available on its European routes. Europe Select provides passengers with dedicated check in desks and lounge access. On European routes, sandwiches are served in Economy class, while on intercontinental routes a full meal service is available.
KLM’s frequent flyer programme is called Flying Blue, which is run jointly with Air France, the first time two major European airlines have combined their loyalty programmes. The scheme has Ivory, Silver, Gold and Platinum levels of membership, of which all except Ivory are considered Elite membership. Elite membership is obtained by earning enough points within a calendar year to reach the relevant threshold. All levels earn points to be converted into free flights, while Elite benefits additionally include priority check in, additional baggage allowance and bonus miles. Gold and Platinum levels also offer lounge access.
BlueBiz is a corporate reward programme, which awards Blue points for every flight booked by corporates. These points are transferable, therefore allowing anyone in the company to use the points to purchase flights.
