Strasbourg is an important European city, being the home of The Council of Europe, The European Court of Human Rights and the European Parliament and many other institutions. The city is very picturesque with stunning examples of medieval European architecture and its natural setting on the river and its canals. The city is a cross between Germany and France, with the German influence very evident, particularly through some of the city’s architecture dating from the German renaissance.
Strasbourg Cathedral
Strasbourg Cathedral (Cathédrale de Nôtre Dame) is an engineering marvel, towering some 142 metres over the city. The cathedral took 250 years to construct and construction was completed in 1439. There is a viewing platform at the cathedral which offers stunning views over Strasbourg, Vosges and the Black Forrest. The cathedral also houses an astronomical clock.
