St Petersburg Holidays

The Russian city of St Petersburg is the former capital of the country. The Winter Palace, the former official residence of the Tsar’s of Russia, is in St Petersburg, and is now a part of the impressive Hermitage Museum. Other impressive buildings in the city include the Peter and Paul Fortress and the St Petersburg Mosque. The city gets very cold in winter, with the River Neva freezing over for several months of the year. Flights to St Petersburg are available with British Airways. Flight time is around 3 hours.

Situated on the Gulf of Finland and spread over numerous islands in the Neva Delta, St Petersburg is a city of arched bridges, winding canals, wide boulevards, elegant palaces, impressive squares and ornate churches, and as such is often referred to as the 'Venice of the North'. It has an elegance also reminiscent of cities like Paris, Berlin and Amsterdam, but is at the same time too Russian to be European, and beguiles with a charm of its own.
