The main tourist attractions in Madrid include, The Botanical Gardens, is a great place to relax after a long day of sightseeing, The Prado Museum and the The Royal Palace of Madrid. The El Rastro Market, held on Sunday’s and public holidays is wort a visit if you’re after a bargain. British Airways Iberia Airlines operate direct flights to Madrid Barajas International Airport (MAD).

Madrid may be lacking in architectural beauty compared with other major Spanish cities, but it makes up for this with its boundless energy, blue skies, art, culture and some of the most exhilarating and exhausting nightlife in Europe. The city is compact and easy to navigate on foot - most of the sights of interest are found in the downtown area between the Royal Palace and Parque del Retiro.

1. La Tomatina Event on from 2007-08-29 To 2007-08-29
 

What is this event? Almost 10,000 visitors descend annually on this tiny little village just 25 miles (40km) outside of Valencia to throw tomatoes at one another in the world's biggest food fight. The origins of the festival are a bit hazy but it is believed to have started as a simple incident between a seller in the market throwing a vegetable at a competitor and then erupted into the entire village taking part. Now visitors from all across the globe make the trek annually to join in the very red celebrations. There is little accommodation in Buñol itself and visitors are advised to book early into hotels in Valencia.. Where is it? Buñol, Costa de Valencia

2. Imitation of the Real Event on from 2006-10-24 To 2007-01-07
 

What is this event? The world's largest art museum hosts Spanish Still Lifes from the Naseiro Collection, which was acquired on the initiative of the Ministry of Culture and through the acceptance of the paintings by the Ministry of Finance in lieu of tax from BBVA bank. The value of the collection is estimated at 26 million Euros and forty of the works of art will be up on display. Also on display are works by Juan Fernández "El Labrador", Juan de Espinosa, Tomás Hiepes, Pedro Camprobín, Juan de Arellano and Luis Meléndez.. Where is it? Museo del Prado
