Lanzarote is the furthest east of the Canary Islands with a great range of beaches and attractions. Being a major sun holiday destination, there are plenty of cheap Lanzarote flights from the UK.

Located just 79 miles from the African cost, Lanzarote is the furthest east of the Canary Islands.  As with the other islands in the archipelago, Lanzarote is a popular tourist destination mainly because of its great climate and beautiful sandy beaches.  Lanzarote’s weather is very consistent with temperatures ranging from about 20 degrees Celsius in winter to 32 degrees in the height of summer.  All forms of water sports are popular in Lanzarote including; surfing, scuba diving, snorkelling etc.

Puerto del Carmen

Puerto del Carmen is a former sleepy fishing village and now a busy tourist resort in Lanzarote.  Puerto del Carmen has six kilometres of sandy beaches, so finding a spot to put your towel shouldn’t be a problem!  Puerto del Carmen also has some great shopping, from duty free to local arts and crafts, this town has it all for the avid shopper.  There are plenty of restaurants in Puerto del Carmen offering a wide range of international cuisines as well as traditional Canarian fare.  There are plenty of accommodation options in Puerto del Carmen, from hotels to holiday villas.  

Castillo de San Jose

The Castillo de San Jose was built in 1776.  The castle was originally built as a fortress to defend the island from pirates.  The castle has now houses the Contemporary Art Museum.  

Timanfaya National Park

Is a volcanic park approximately 51 km² in area.  Some of the most well known volcanoes in the park (which have been dormant for about 180 years) are Montañas del Fuego (Fire Mountain), la Caldera del Corazoncillo (Little Heart Cauldron) and the Montaña Rajada (Cracked Mountain).  The landscape in this part of the island is often referred to as being ‘Martian’.  This is due to the barren, lifeless appearance owing to volcanic activity in years gone by.  A coach trip around the complex is included in the park’s entry fee.

Whale and Dolphin Museum

The Whale and Dolphin Museum is in the marina area of Puerto Calero.  The museum teaches visitors about the evolution and attributes of whales and how they live in the wild.  There are life size replicas in the museum as well as audio visual displays.  The museum is open 7 days 10.00-18.00 and admission is € 11 for adults and € 5 for children.
