Jerez is the gateway town to the Costa de la Luz, being home to the major airport in the area. Holiday flights are available to Jerez from London Stansted, with Monarch Airlines offering flights from Manchester.

Jerez de la Frontera (usually known as Jerez) is the gateway town to the Costa de la Luz, being home to the major airport in the area.  It is principally known for its sherry production, with the word sherry being an anglicised version of Jerez (which is pronounced Her-reth in Spanish).

Sherry

Jerez is very famous for its sherry production, with sherry known as Vino de Jerez in Spanish.  Tours are available of the Bodegas, many of which are in the centre of town.  Famous ones include Sandeman and Pedro Domecq.   A Sherry Festival takes place in September, and is a wonderful time to visit Jerez for those who enjoy a glass or two of sherry!

Flamenco

Jerez prides itself on its Flamenco dancing and has a Flamenco Festival at the end of February/early March, which lasts for a fortnight.  The Centro Andaluz de Flamenco is worth visiting at any time of year, and is open between Monday and Friday. 

Jerez Zoo

Jerez has an excellent zoo, with well over 1,000 animals in residence, including a White Tiger (the only one in Spain).  Outside the major holiday seasons, the zoo is closed on Mondays. 

Alcazar

The Alcazar in Jerez was built in the 12th century and still stands as one of the oldest preserved buildings in the city.

Jerez Airport is the major airport for travellers to the Costa de la Luz and consequently is well served by airlines.  Ryanair fly to Jerez from London Stansted, with Monarch Airlines offering flights from Manchester.  British Airways fly to Jerez via Madrid or Barcelona.
