Fuengirola is on the Costa del Sol on Spain’s Mediterranean Coast. It is a popular tourist destination and is located close to other major resorts such as Torremolinos and Marbella. As with all the resorts on the Costa del Sol, Fuengirola has a wonderful climate offering summer and winter sun.
Fuengirola Attractions
Beaches
One of the main reasons to visit Fuengirola is to experience its miles of beautiful beaches. The beaches, from Sohail Castle to Torreblanca, are linked by the Paseo Maritimo promenade. The beaches have excellent facilities, including numerous watersports and a wide choice of beach bars. Beaches in Fuengirola include Los Boliches, Las Gaviotas, San Francisco and Santa Amalia.
Fuengirola Port
Fuengirola Port is still a working fishing port, and the fishermen can be seen daily bringing in their catch. However, it is also a marina where luxury yachts are moored and boat trips around the area commence. Glass bottom boat trips are a particularly popular choice, with the chance to see dolphins and other sea creatures.
Nightlife
Fuengirola has an impressive number of bars and nightclubs and for this reason is a popular choice of resort for many people. There is a wide selection of restaurants in the resort, with fish restaurants being a particular speciality.
Marbella
The resort of Marbella is a short distance from Fuengirola and is well worth a visit. Puerto Banus has an impressive marina where the rich and famous can often be found with their luxury yachts. There are also numerous beaches and a charming Old Town area.
Theme Parks
There are many theme parks on the Costa del Sol, with one of the largest, Tivoli World, being at nearby Benalmadena. Other parks include the Sea Life Centre, Aqualand (close to Torremolinos) and Fuengirola Zoo.
How to get there - Malaga Flights
The main airport on the Costa del Sol is at Malaga and it is served by numerous UK airlines. Easyjet fly from London Stansted and Jet2 fly from Birmingham and Newcastle. Other airlines flying to Malaga include Monarch Airlines, Flybe, British Airways and Thomas Cook Airlines. The flight time to Malaga is around 2 hours and 30 minutes.www.visitcostadelsol.com
