The Costa del Sol is home to many of the best known Spanish holiday resorts, including Magaluf, Torremolinos and Marbella. The area has wonderful year-round sunshine and is very popular with those seeking winter sun. The language spoken on the Costa del Solis Spanish, with the local currency being the euro.
Attractions
Magaluf
One of the best known resorts on the Costa del Solis Magaluf, which attracts a crowd interested in partying. Many well known UK DJs play in the clubs in Magaluf. Other attractions in the resort include the Pirates Adventure Dinner Show, a beautiful beach and an enviable selection of restaurants and bars.
Torremolinos
A former fishing village, Torremolinos has been one of the most popular resorts on the Costa del Solsince the 1960’s. It has a good nightlife and wonderful beaches. A promenade links Torremolinos with Benalmadena, and this offers a wonderful way to appreciate the beautiful coastline.
Marbella
Marbella has 24 wonderful sandy beaches and most visitors to the resort will spend much time relaxing on them. Beaches in Marbella include Casa Blanca Beach and La Venus Beach. Puerto Banus is a marina area in Marbella and attracts many luxury yachts to its berths.
Other Resorts
Benalmadena – Benalmadena has an unspoilt old town, as well a modern resort offering facilities including the Sea Life Centre. A promenade links the resort to Torremolinos.
Malaga – Malaga offers an interesting mix of historical attractions and beach facilities. Malaga is the birthplace of Picasso and there is a museum dedicated to him, as well as his birthplace.
Fuengirola – Fuengirola has many attractions, including beaches, a working port and marina and plentiful nightlife. It is very close to Marbella.
Theme Parks
Aqualand – the Aqualand theme park is a large water park which is situated close to Torremolinos, but attracts visitors from all over the Costa del Sol. Open between the months of May and September, the theme park offers amazing water rides as well as mini golf.
Tivoli World – Tivoli World theme park is situated near Benalmadena and is one of the largest on the Costa del Sol. Open between March and September, the park offers thrilling rides, restaurants and flamenco shows.
Golf
The Costa del Solis becoming a popular golfing destination, with many wonderful golf courses along the coast. Some of the largest include the Parador del Golf and the Torrequebrada course, which is close to the resort of Benalmadena.
How to get there
The major airport on the Costa del Sol is at Malaga. Many airlines fly from the UKto Malaga, including Jet2 from Newcastle and Flybe from Southampton and Birmingham. British Airways and Easyjet also fly between Malaga and the UK.
