Costa de la Luz Holidays - Gibralter, Jerez & Cadiz

Bordering Portugal, Costa de la Luz is an ideal location for golf holidays and resorts. Gibralter, Jerez and Cadiz are are all nearby.

The Costa de la Luz (Coast of Light) is a beautiful stretch of coastline in south-western Spain which runs up to the border with Portugal.  It is an Atlantic, rather than Mediterranean coastline and therefore can be a preferable choice for those interested in watersports such as windsurfing.  The Costa de la Luz boasts many beautiful beaches and golf courses.

Attractions

Jerez

Jerez is the arrival town for many people as it has the main airport serving the Costa de la Luz.  The city is famous for producing sherry, and there are many tours around the Bodegas.  Jerez is also famous for its flamenco and its wonderful zoo.

Cadiz

A city with a long history, Cadiz has an old town area that is well worth exploring.  There are also beautiful beaches, such as Playa de la Victoria.  One of the major attractions for visitors to Cadiz is the Carnival, held before lent each year.  The whole city gets involved and it is one of Spain’s premier carnivals.

Golf

There are many golfing opportunities on the Costa de la Luz.  One of the major golf courses is Costa Ballena Club de Golf, which was designed by Seve Ballesteros.  Other golf courses include Arcos Gardens Golf Club and Montecastillo Golf Club. 

Other resorts

Tarifa – Tarifa has beautiful sandy beaches which are very popular with windsurfers. 

El Puerto de Santa Maria – El Puerto de Santa Maria is a port resort which has many good quality seafood restaurants.  Day trips to Cadiz are popular, with a boat service connecting to the two across the Bay of Cadiz. 

Gibraltar

A popular day trip from many of the resorts on the Costa de la Luz is to Gibraltar.  There are many attractions in Gibraltar, including the famous Rock and its monkeys.  The currency in Gibraltar is Gibraltar Pounds.

How to get there - Jerez Flights

The main airport on the Costa de la Luz is at Jerez.  Jerez Airport is served by many airlines, including Ryanair from London Stansted.  Monarch Airlines fly to Jerez from Manchester Airport. Other airlines flying to Jerez include British Airways and Iberia Airlines.  Gibraltar Airport is also close to some of the resorts on the Costa de la Luz and flights are available to Gibraltar with British Airways.
