The Costa Blanca is in Spain and is a popular destination for visitors looking for summer sun. The main resort on the Costa Blanca is Benidorm, but there are many other options for travellers who are looking for a quieter holiday. The Costa Blanca is situated between the mountains and the sea and has many quaint inland villages that are well worth visiting. The city of Alicante is the main city on the Costa Blanca, and is where the airport is located.
Attractions
Benidorm
Benidorm is the most well known resort on the Costa Blanca, and perhaps in Spain. It has a reputation as being a party resort, with numerous bars and nightclubs, but also has much to offer beyond this, with a beautiful old town area and large, sandy beaches, including Playa Levante and Playa Poniente. There are several theme parks close to Benidorm, including Aqualandia and Terra Mitica.
Alicante
The town of Alicante is a popular destination on the Costa Blanca. Wonderful views of the city can be had from the Castle of Santa Barbara. The main beach in the city is called La Playa de San Juan and is a long sandy beach that has many shops and restaurants lining it. The marina also has many restaurants and cafes.
Villajoyosa The village of Villajoyosais situated to the south of Benidorm and is famous for producing chocolate. It is less crowded than Benidorm, but still has plentiful tourist facilities. The Royal Palm Casino is in Villajoyosa.
Other Resorts Denia – Denia is a small resort with a wonderful long sandy beach. It is also possible to take a ferry from Denia to some of the Balearic Islands.
Moraira – Moraira has a selection of good quality restaurants and cafes and many weekly markets.
Javea – Javea is a resort dominated by the Montgo Mountain. It has an old town area, a port area and a beach area, thus offering a variety of experiences within the one resort.
Golf
There are numerous golf courses on the Costa Blanca, making it a popular choice of holiday destination for keen golfers. On the northern end of the Costa Blanca, the golf course at Olivia is one of the best known, being designed by Seve Ballesteros. Other golf clubs include the Alicante Golf Club, Real de Faula golf course near Benidorm and the Campo de Golf Villamartin.
How to get there
Flights are available to Alicante with many major airlines. Airlines offering flights include Ryanair, Easyjet and flybe. Jet2 fly from Newcastle and Manchester, while bmibaby offer flights from airports including East Midlands. British Airways are another airline flying to Alicante from the UK.
