Cascais, a former small fishing village, is on the Estoril Coast in Portugal.  It is a resort catering for travellers wanting anything from high-end luxury to a package deal.  At the beginning of the last century, it was the resort of choice for the Portugese Royal Family.  As with other Portugese resorts, the currency in use in Cascais is the euro.

Beaches

There are many beaches within easy reach of Cascais, with some particularly good for watersports due to the Atlantic coastline.

Guincho - The beach at Guincho is one of the best in the area for visitors wishing to indulge in watersports such as windsurfing and surfing.  However, it is still a very popular family beach and has plentiful facilities.  It has a charming location at the base of the Sintra Hills and is backed by impressive pine trees. The beach is a couple of miles outside Cascais but is accessible by bus.

Praia da Reinha – Praia da Reinha is one of the beaches centrally located in Cascais. 

Praia da Ribeira – Praia da Ribeira is a small harbour beach.

Estoril

The famous resort town of Estoril is the next town up the coast from Cascais and is therefore easily accessible for those visitors who wish to visit both places.  Estoril can be reached by walking along the Promenade that links the two resorts and takes in wonderful views of the coast.

Golf

There are many golf courses on the Estoril Coast and Cascais is becoming a very popular base for those travellers who are having a golfing holiday.  Courses include the Quinta da Marinha golf course, which has an 18 hole course, and the Campo de Golfe de Belas.

Cheap Flights Portugal

Cascais is situated around 20 miles west of Lisbon and is therefore within easy reach of the international airport located there.  Flights to Lisbon from the UK are operated by numerous carriers, including by bmibaby from regional airports such as Cardiff and Manchester.  British Airways and TAP Portugal both fly to Lisbon from London and flight time is about 2 hours and 30 minutes. www.cascais.net
