Cairo, the capital city of Egypt, is built on the banks of the River Nile. Within a short distance of the city are the Pyramids of Giza. Another major attraction is the tomb of Tutankhamun. The architecture of the city is a mixture of medieval and modern, Christian and Islamic. Cairo gets very hot in summer, and the best months to visit are those from October to April. The congested streets of Islamic Cairo are full of donkey carts, traders and mosques, while camels weave their way haughtily between the crumbling pyramids on the outskirts.
