Cadiz is in Spain, and is the capital of the province of Cadiz. A port town, it is built on the Bay of Cadiz, with its peninsula location meaning it is almost surrounded by water. The city is historically well preserved, with a beautiful old quarter that is definitely worth exploring.

Carnival of Cadiz - Many cities in Spain have a Carnival, but the most impressive one is held annually in Cadiz. Carnival is held just before lent begins. There are many things to enjoy at Carnival, include impressive costumes, choirs of singers and Chirigotas, who are groups of people performing satire.

Cadiz Beaches - Cadiz is blessed with some wonderful beaches. La Playa de la Victoria is very popular with families, as is La Playa de la Caleta, which is in the old city. Another of the beaches in Cadiz is La Playa de Santa Maria del Mar.

Old City - Exploring the old city of Cadiz is a wonderful way to spend time. The narrow streets and white washed buildings evoke memories of former years. There are beautiful Plazas to relax in such as the Plaza San Antonio. The city walls divide the new city from the old and following them around offers great views of the city.

Cadiz Cathedral is an impressive building and is topped by a golden tile dome. Dating from the 18th Century, it is open to the public between Tuesday and Saturday and there is a small cover charge for entrance.

Cadiz Flights and Travel Information

The nearest airport to Cadiz is at Jerez. From London Stansted, Ryanair offer flights to Jerez. Monarch Airlines offer flights from Manchester. Flights are available with British Airways and Iberia via other Spanish airports. There are trains linking Jerez and Cadiz, with a taxi and bus service also available.
