Amiens is the capital of the Somme Department, and is in the Picardy region of France.  It is dominated by its magnificent Cathedrale Notre-Dame, which is open to the public daily.  During the summer months, and over the Christmas holiday period, there is an amazing light display on the West Front of the Cathedral every evening.  Other attractions in Amiens include the St-Leu Medieval Quarter, which has canals and restaurants to explore, and the Hortillonnages, which are gardens created on former marshland.  Guided tours of the Hortillonnages are available.  The nearest airport to Amien is at Beauvais, with Ryanair flying to Beauvais from Bournemouth, Liverpool, Glasgow and East Midlands Airport.
